About

The purpose of our CptS 423 project, working in conjunction with our mentors at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), is to utilize Web 2.0 concepts and technologies to increase accessibility of certain aspects of, and services provided by ChemAlliance.org, a site run by PNNL for the Environmental Protection Agency.   To this end we have developed a series of modules for a user's personal Google homepage that are designed to bring relevant information to a user with a minimum amount of effort on the user's part.

An additional key component of our project is the development of a system to facilitate community involvement for Chemical Engineers around the world.   This system is based around the concept of Social Bookmarking - a system wherein users interact by bookmarking websites and 'tagging' them in an online database where other users can access them.   In this way we harness the reasoning and logic of our user-base to organize and filter these resources to provide a self moderating community of users with similar purposes.

Our mentors in this project from PNNL are Scott Butner and Steve Silva.   They provide aid in form of guidance in the general goals of development and help to discuss and elaborate upon varying directions that we could go in order to achieve the best possible results.   The three members of our team are: Adam Christian, Estella Look and Nick Myers.
